Founder of Miles Construction, Bill Miles, Retires – Majority Ownership Transferred to Cary Richardson
In Northern Nevada construction, William (Bill) Miles’s name has long stood for his commitment to the region’s economic development, workforce development and project excellence. Today marks a significant milestone as Bill Miles retires from his role as chief executive officer at the company he founded and built. While officially retired, Miles will continue to lend his expertise in cultivating relationships with the company within the community. Assuming the role of president and majority shareholder is Cary Richardson, a 21-year leader with the company.
Bill Miles is a native Nevadan through and through. Born in Henderson, Nevada, in 1954, his family later moved to Carson City where he graduated from Carson City High School in 1972. He continued his higher education while simultaneously completing several internships working toward entrepreneurship. Miles earned accreditation from several building schools and certifications that prepared him for his future in construction. Miles worked as a carpenter at Newman Construction in Carson City, then as Superintendent/Foreman at McCollum Construction followed by a position as Project Manager at Eureka Builders.
In 1986, Miles founded Miles Construction in Carson City. His desire was for the company to be a multifaceted construction and design-build solution for clients throughout Nevada. It was based on two simple principles: integrity and solid relationships.
“I remember those early days with just my truck and tools,” said Miles. “From such a modest start, it has been my sincere honor and privilege to have led the company for all these years, accumulating a long list of accomplishments here in Nevada and throughout the West Coast along the way. We are fortunate to have talented and dedicated personnel who also believe in our values and share with us our successes. I couldn’t be more pleased with where we are today, and I look forward to seeing the company continue to grow under Cary’s capable leadership.”
Miles’ vision led the company to complete many noteworthy projects ranging from industrial, pre-engineered steel, concrete tilt-up commercial warehouses to historic renovations and institutional buildings. Under Miles’ leadership, the company has completed several schools, many manufacturing facilities at the Reno-Tahoe Industrial Center and beyond and renovated the historic Farmer’s Bank Building and Minden Mill Distilling buildings in Minden, Nevada. Making a name in sustainable building, the company has constructed multiple Silver, Gold and Platinum LEED certified Projects.
Today, Miles Construction’s portfolio of services includes general contracting, construction management, design assist, pre-engineered steel, sustainable construction, and advanced manufacturing facilities. With many projects currently in both construction and pre-construction, Miles Construction’s future is bright.
Richardson’s leadership team includes Jim Magrogan, Vice President of Business Operations, and Jerry Deines returning as Vice President of Field Operations. They will work closely with the valued and professional staff including project managers, superintendents and office personnel to ensure Miles Construction remains an industry leader and best in class general contractor in Northern Nevada and beyond.
“Miles Construction is where it is today because of Bill’s dedication and sheer tenacity to always do what is right while remaining committed to our client’s success,” said Richardson. “While he’s stepping away from the daily operations, having his support within the community and continuing to build client relationships fills an important role. I’m excited to carry the torch that Bill created and continue to ensure that the Miles Construction brand remains synonymous with quality, dedication and collaboration to our clients, their projects and the community.”
