Kemet is an 83,000 SF steel building with numerous additions to enhance the operation of the facility. Additions include a 1,700 SF masonry warehouse, the South Complex addition which includes a 1,500 SF steel building with an exterior tank farm, and the 1,600 SF masonry sodium handling building. All the additions handle, store and process volatile materials.
The structures were designed using masonry and pressure relief hatches in order to handle an emergency. Coordination between the design team and the local municipalities was a major part to the success of the project.
