Athletic Center Construction Begins
CARSON CITY, Nev. — A long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony was held today for the Multi-purpose Athletic Center gymnasium, or MAC, in Carson City.
Miles Construction is the general contractor on the $8.3 million project, a 33,418-square-foot building with an 8,115-square-foot elevated running/walking track. MAC includes two collegiate size basketball courts that can be converted to four smaller tournament size courts for basketball and volleyball. It also includes locker rooms, restrooms and administrative space. The center will be available for use by all groups, from youth to teens, adults and seniors. Completion is expected in December 2015.
The athletic center is a response to the community’s desire for more indoor recreation space, according to Carson City officials. The center is near the Russell Way location of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, and the city and nonprofit will partner to provide recreational opportunities to local youth.
